…but I can’t bring myself to say “out with the old”. The truth is I *love* my old tibook. It worked its ass off keeping up with me for 4½ years and it’s still going strong. But the truth is it’s just too slow to do a lot of what I need to do – which mostly seems to be running bloated, inefficient software that requires multi- gigahertz CPUs to run acceptably. Which is a whole different rant.
Anyway, I bit the bullet and overnighted a new MacBook pro, 2.16ghz, last night, and it arrived today. Slapped Parallels on it and had Firefox running under Ubuntu before I had even installed it on OSX. It’s pretty goddamn slick. I’ll have plenty to say about it once I get it all set up, but I’ve decided NOT to use the Apple “migration assistant” to move everything over. I’ll do it one app/ need at a time.
Right now it’s at the tragic point where it’s so new I can hardly bear to touch it. The keys all have that faintly gritty “new” feel, which I know I’ll be wearing smooth soon enough. But it suuuuure is purty.
